I’m Andrea, your host, and “Il Gatto e la Civetta” is the home I take care of in the heart of Fano.
Fano began life as Fanum Fortunae, a Roman town facing the sea — the same city where Vitruvius chose to build his basilica, described in his De Architectura and rediscovered only in January 2026 beneath Piazza Andrea Costa, after two thousand years. Then came the Malatesta family, who left behind the Renaissance character you can still feel today strolling under the Arch of Augustus. Right in the middle of all this history sits our house: historic outside, built for relaxing inside.
That’s where the name comes from — the cat and the owl move about when everyone else is asleep, taking their time, watching before they act. That’s the spirit we want for your stay here: no rush, no schedules to keep. Just Fano’s slow days — a swim, a walk through the lanes, a plate of brodetto or truffle tagliolini, finished with a local moretta coffee, and then an aperitivo that stretches into the evening.

Entrance hall and eat-in kitchen: the heart of the house, where days begin and lunches are shared.
First floor
Living room with TV and sofa bed, plus a bathroom. The space to unwind after the beach.
Second floor
Two bedrooms: one double and one twin. A good night's sleep for everyone.

A historic house in the old town, with all the comforts of a modern home.

No gas in the house: induction hob, electric oven, mini fridge, dishwasher, washing machine, dryer and air conditioning — all electric.
